Maritime UK and The Wellington Trust are inviting London FE leaders and careers leaders to join them aboard HQS Wellington on Tuesday 8 March, as part of National Careers Week.

There are 40,000 jobs on or around the River Thames, and we want to invite you to spend some time with us learning about the maritime sector and its exciting future. We will discuss the Maritime 2050 Strategy and its People Route Map, which identify that the sector is expected to double in size and that the maritime industries pay well above the average wage. We will also discuss how industry is working to make the sector more attractive to the next generation.

The session will run from 1630 to 1930.

Join us to learn about:

  • The maritime industries (shipping, ports, marine engineering, leisure marine and professional services)
  • Future skills needs to meet the ambition of Maritime 2050
  • The business services that support the sector
  • Decarbonisation, clean maritime and green tech
  • The future for maritime

During the evening you will hear from speakers from FE, including Paul Little, the Principal and CEO of the City of Glasgow College. The college is already including maritime careers in their curriculum and careers programme. Attendees will have the opportunity to talk with London-based maritime employers, the Careers Colleges Trust and the Ormiston Academies Trust about the work they are both doing to support maritime sector learning.
