Project Barracuda - Towards the Zero Carbon intercoastal highway

The project concerns the provisions of offshore charging stations based upon redundant oil service vessels (charge barge). The Charge ship is a 3,300 tonne vessel to be semi-permanently moored within a wind-farm, drawing power from the export cables, charging modular battery packs for hybrid crew transfer and other coastal vessels. Also powering a range of specially commissioned all electric crew-transfer, guard and survey vessels.

The project is "oven-ready", the designs of batteries, charging technology and hardware as developed by MJR and Stirling.

The vessel is able to provide power to all coastal marine traffic, with a ring of these vessels around the British Isles.
Further development allows for the charge barge to be equipped with its own vertical wind turbines thus can be situated in any coastal location.

With the aid of Innovate UK clean marine grant (press embargoed until September) , we can refine the technology and Commercial offering.

The removal of diesel powered vessels from the European Offshore Wind sector, will reduce an estimated 750,000 tonnes of Co2 per annum.
