Dr Bev Mackenzie is the London Representative at the International Maritime Organization for BIMCO, the world’s largest direct-membership organisation for shipowners, charterers, shipbrokers and agents and has a broad knowledge of international policy related to shipping. She is also a Manager in the BIMCO Marine Environment Team utilising her degree in chemical oceanography and a PhD in physical oceanography from the University of Liverpool, UK to develop the science and engineering policy interface. She has particular expertise in operational oceanography and ocean observing and issues relating to maritime industries and the environment including issues such as sea-based sources of marine plastics, climate change and marine pollution. 

In her previous role as Policy Director at the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology she managed contributions to the work of a number of Intergovernmental Organizations including the International Maritime Organization, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea and the London Convention/London Protocol and as such as a broad overview of the international policy arena and its relation to the marine and maritime sectors. 

She is a Fellow of the IMarEST and of the Marine Biological Association and is a Chartered Marine Scientist and Chartered Scientist. In addition, she is a Trustee of Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) and is the UK member on the WISTA Technology & Futures Committee.
