I started my career in shipping with P&O Bulk Carriers in 1989 as a Voyage Analyst. P&O were good to me and put me through the ICS exams and moved me around departments so I got some experience in chartering, operations and at P&O Tankships, I joined Drewry in 1997 and have been involved with them since, on various bulk and breakbulk research publications and consultancy assignments. I regularly speak on bulk maritime trends at various conferences and can honestly say I love my job. Becoming self-employed 15 years ago has enabled me to do more with the Institute, mainly teaching students dry cargo chartering. I was honoured to be asked to throw my hat into the ViceChairman's election ring and am looking forward to starting my Chairmanship in 2019. I firmly believe that training our young people well and mentoring them through their early careers is the only way forward for our industry.
