Deadline extended for Maritime UK Awards

Businesses and organisations in the UK’s bustling maritime sector have a little longer to enter the first ever Maritime UK Awards, with the deadline extended to July 4.

Entries for the inaugural awards scheme were due to close this week (13 June). However, organisers want to ensure that the opportunity to enter reaches all parts of the diverse sector, and have therefore extended the deadline to allow companies who haven’t yet had a chance to complete their entries to get their submissions in.

Ben Murray, director at Maritime UK, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed with the number of fantastic entries to date, and we want to make sure that the breadth of the sector has the opportunity to submit an entry. It’s a busy time of year, and we’ve been contacted by many companies asking for a little more time to get their submissions in.”

Stuart Baker, Head of Local Growth at the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership and Chair of the Maritime UK Regional Council, added: “These awards are a fantastic opportunity for businesses to really shout about their successes. We hear so many great stories about the innovative and exciting work going on in the sector and now’s the time for companies and organisations to get the national recognition they deserve.”

The Maritime UK Awards are open to businesses and organisations from across the breadth of the maritime and marine sectors, including shipping, ports, marine services, engineering, professional services and leisure marine. The categories mirror themes in the Government’s recently published strategy for the sector, Maritime 2050, with awards for hot topics such as innovation, sustainability and international trade up for grabs.

The winners will be presented with their awards at a ceremony at the Leonardo Royal Hotel Southampton Grand Harbour on 19th September, during the Southampton Boat Show.

The Solent has been chosen to host the first Maritime UK Awards following a successful bid from the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), which is also hosting the event.
