Seafarers UK selected as Charity Partner for Maritime UK Awards ceremony on 19 September

Maritime UK has selected Seafarers UK as its charity partner for the inaugural Maritime UK Awards ceremony, to be held in the Leonardo Royal Hotel Southampton Grand Harbour on 19 September 2019.

The Maritime UK Awards are the first truly national maritime awards in the UK, organised by industry, for the benefit of industry. They are open to companies from across the breadth of the maritime sector, including shipping, ports, services, engineering, and leisure marine industries.

Seafarers UK is a charity that has been helping people in the maritime community for over 100 years, by providing vital support to seafarers in need and their families. They do this by giving grants to organisations and projects that make a real difference to people’s lives, across the Merchant Navy, Fishing Fleets, Royal Navy and Royal Marines. In 2018, the charity awarded 76 grants totalling £2.46m to 56 maritime welfare charities.

Harry Theochari, Maritime UK Chair, said: ‘We are excited about this inaugural event that will not only shine a spotlight on the most exciting and dynamic activity across our sector, but will also champion each of our great maritime regions by rotating each year. We are delighted to hold the inaugural awards in Southampton during the city’s boat show, Britain’s biggest festival of boating.’

Nick Harvey, Campaigns Manager at Seafarers UK said: ‘As a member of Maritime UK, Seafarers UK welcomes this opportunity to enthusiastically support these awards and the recognition they will bring to the men and women who work across the UK’s diverse maritime and marine industries.’

The awards are open to businesses and organisations of all sizes. The categories mirror themes in the UK Government’s recently-published strategy for the sector, Maritime 2050:
