The Annual National Service for Seafarers 2023
The Annual National Service for Seafarers 2023 will take place at St Paul's Cathedral on October 11, 2023, at 17:00.
Last year, the Annual National Service for Seafarers (ANSS) made a triumphant return to St Paul's Cathedral on 12 October 2022, having been cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the devastating Coronavirus pandemic.
The rescheduled 2022 Service was graced by the presence of distinguished guests including HRH The Princess Royal, the Lord Mayor and Aldermen of the City of London as well as numerous VIPs, institutions and maritime welfare charities from across the maritime sector. The Band of the Royal Marines (Portsmouth) filled the great cathedral with wonderful, stirring music and more than 20 standard bearers processed to the Dome crossing. The combined choirs were impressive and the sermon was given by Bishop Nicholas McKinnel, formerly of Plymouth. The Service contained those special rousing hymns that seafarers and many others so enjoy.
The administration of ANSS has undergone a transformation in recent years. The Seafarers' Charity, taking over from Mission to Seafarers in 2014, now shares the responsibility with the Corporation of Trinity House, which joined the team last year. This collaborative effort, in conjunction with the invaluable assistance of St Paul's Cathedral's staff, has laid the foundation for the continued administration of the Service in the years to come.
The Annual National Service for Seafarers is set to return to St Paul's Cathedral on 11 October 2023, at 17:00. The preacher will be The Right Honourable and Right Reverend Dame Sarah Mullally DBE, Bishop of London.
