Maritime Skills: What human and digital skills will be needed to underpin the global maritime industry’s future success?

The pace of change in the ways the global maritime industry works is increasing. The adoption of digitisation and the need to decarbonise are the two key drivers with the pandemic acting as an accelerant.
Accepting that the nature of the work conducted ashore and afloat will change in the future, this webinar, the first in a series of three-run as part of the 2022 Maritime Master’s programme, provides three perspectives in answering the question: what human and digital skills will the global maritime industry need in the future?
In doing so, we will look at the magnitude of change and attempt to paint a picture of what careers in maritime might look like by the end of the decade
The perspectives we will take are:
- The BIG picture: Richard Clayton, Chief Correspondent, Lloyd’s List, a regular commentator on maritime people matters, will explain some of the key emerging trends which explain where we stand today and where we are heading to in the future.
- Recruitment: Kiran Brown, Talent Acquisition Manager, H Clarkson & Company, will explain the changes and challenges she is witnessing in fulfilling the recruitment needs for a global and diversified shipping services group
- Learning & Development: Mark Wootton, Director for Terminal Automation, Royal HaskoningDHV will focus on how to upskill and re-skill people in order to meet future job requirements in the ports sector.
The webinar will commence at 1100AM on Thursday 24th. After the three short presentations, there will be time for participants to ask questions before the webinar closes and via SeaChat.
