Project Plan

- The date for Deliverable 1.1.2.2 (Survey of UK Industry – Andy Mitchell/Ken Houlberg) of 01/02/2023 will need to be updated.
- ACTION Michael Ward/David Cooper – look at how the international CofE examples (Deliverable 1.1.3.3) can be inserted into the matrix for comparison.
- ACTION Ben Murray – follow up separately with Focus Workstream leads
- The meeting with the Shipyard of the Future and Shipbuilding Skills Taskforce was being arranged, but due to diary pressures likely to take place in February.
Matrix
- Michael talked through the updated matrix, highlighting that it had been presented as a list to better capture the volume of information and the breadth of activity taking place within some sites.
- Noted that most entries were identified at 3*/4* ratings. The matrix requires refinement by those with more shipbuilding experience.
- ACTION Michael Ward – set up small group session to review, with Richard Powell, Rachel Connor, Geoff Searle and NSO rep
- ACTION Members not present – any other volunteers to get in touch with Michael
- Next step would then be to test with the customer community for a more impartial view.
- Then need to compare against the shipbuilding value chain to identify gaps, as well as existing centres that may require investment.
- Patrick Carnie suggested points to bear in mind during refinement against the existing criterium:
- Consider international clientele as an indicator of Global Significance
- Consider Value Add to different parts of the value chain
- Consider capacity and capability as part of Timeliness
- Consider national and international cooperation as part of Engagement
Models
- It was agreed that the paper on models is now complete as a deliverable.
- However, we will return to this later in the process as we consider which CofE to prioritise.
- Consideration should be based on topic/theme, level of excellence we’re trying to achieve, and the model.
Behaviours
- Patrick Carnie and Richard Powell talked through the paper and highlighted that the next step would be gathering input.
- Princess Yachts and the Institute of Collaborative Working had both offered to review the paper.
- Noted that we should look to engage with the customer community once rather than going out with separate requests.
- ACTION All – Share feedback on the Behaviours paper with Patrick by 1200 on 27 January 2023
- Patrick will then refine and share with the SEG for the 31 January meeting. SEG will be requested to provide feedback following the meeting.
- ACTION Eamonn Beirne – provide examples of successful collaboration through the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition
- ACTION Rebecca Spence – provide wording around competition in legislation on Government procurement
- Iain Percy noted that funding which comes with conditions for collaboration drives positive behaviours. Companies recognise the value of collaboration once they do it, but often need the incentive to do it in the first place.
