CHRIS SHIRLING-ROOKE MBE TO STEP DOWN AS CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF MARITIME UK
Maritime UK has announced that Professor Chris Shirling-Rooke MBE will stand down as Chief Executive at the close of this year, marking the end of a period of strategic leadership and organisational transformation. Chris has been central to establishing Maritime UK as the authoritative, collective voice for the UK maritime sector, an industry that contributes a quarter of a trillion pounds to the UK economy annually and supports 1.2 million jobs.
During his tenure, key achievements include implementing an organisational restructure and raising the profile of UK Maritime both nationally and internationally. Chris’ work secured £1 million in Government funding for the Maritime Clusters Development Fund, supporting nine regional clusters across the UK. Furthermore, his collaboration with colleagues has helped to secure the next phase of Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition. He has steered the organisation through two London International Shipping Weeks and successfully taken the MUK awards to Belfast and onboard a vessel in Dover.

The Maritime UK Board has commenced the process of appointing a successor in the meantime Richard Jones MUK’s Head of Governance will step in as interim CEO. The MUK Board will announce details regarding the recruitment process in due course to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of leadership.
