News: Maritime UK partners with National Careers Week to raise awareness for careers in maritime
Maritime UK has partnered with National Careers Week to inspire the next generation of maritime workers.
National Careers Week 2023 runs from 6-11 March and aims to empower students through providing free CEIAG resources to enable students to have more informed choices about their future career opportunities. The week also empowers educators and advisors, through the sharing of case studies and experiences.
National Careers Week 2023 will see maritime celebrated on a dedicated day during the week. Providing information on the career options available for young people looking to explore the maritime sector. For the first time ever, maritime will be at the centre of career conversations across the UK.
Throughout the week Maritime UK and NCW will use the platform to promote maritime careers to schools and colleges across the UK with special events, resources and activities organised for educators to use with their learners. In addition, volunteers signed up for Maritime UK’s Ambassador programme with Inspiring the Future will take part in dedicated NCW activities across the country.
Nick Newman, Founder and CEO, National Careers Week, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to partner with Maritime UK for the National Careers Week 2023 programme. As the biggest celebration of careers information, education and options in the UK, it’s important to have maritime career pathways and opportunities represented.
“With NCW2022 delivering a massive online impact of over 350 million potential impacts across social media and over 450,000 unique visits to the virtual Careers Fair, we are all excited for NCW2023 and the positive impact it will once again have on students across the UK”
Lorna Wager, Programme Manager for Careers and Outreach said:
“With a background in FE Education, I know how important National Careers Week is for schools and colleges, and how well the platform is used by careers professionals’ across the UK.
“For a large majority of educational organisations NCW is the lynchpin around which their career programme and year-round activity are built. Having the opportunity to showcase maritime careers and our careers and outreach programme on this platform will enable us to significantly increase the awareness of the rewarding, exciting and often misunderstood opportunities that the thriving maritime sector can offer.
“Maritime UK is delighted to be partnering with NCW to ensure that maritime careers are seen, incorporated and celebrated in careers programmes in education”
Susan Bell, Training & Careers Manager, Merchant Navy Training Board said:
“We are excited to announce that our Careers at Sea Ambassadors will now be joining the Maritime UK Inspiring the Future Programme. Careers at Sea recognise that the impact we make collectively is far greater through collaboration, sending one clear message – a career in maritime and at sea is for everyone. We warmly encourage all of those who were in the current Careers at Sea programme to sign up via Inspiring the Future and invite seafarers, not currently part of a programme, to join us.”
