Introduction to research

The aim of my research is to identify whether the shipping industry is learning from its part mistakes. More specifically, in the wake of the 2008 recession, walking through the lowest growth cycle, it is crucial examine whether the shipping finance sector and the shipping industry as a whole has learnt its lessons, and will be better protected from a similar crisis or market failure in the future.

Why did you choose maritime as your area of study and research?

The reason I chose to focus on this subject within maritime was because I take interest in the capital intensive nature of the shipping industry and the gap between owners and financiers in the way they see and predict the future of the market.

What do you hope to get out of participating in the Maritime Master programme?

My hope is that through my master's degree I will gain a better understanding of how all participants perceive available information within the market, and how they act upon it. It is important to be able to not only safeguard single entities, whether those are owners or banks, but also the maritime sector as a whole. Through the Maritime Masters programme, I will be able to engage directly with representatives from the industry.
