February 2024 Update
Sub-group 1.2: Modernisation of Curriculum
Following the postponement of Sub-Group 1.3, Consultation Group 1 has also been closed.
Sub-Group 1.2 will continue to complete the work tasked to Consultation Group 1, reforming and modernising the syllabuses, training, and assessment for seagoing qualifications for Nautical, Engineering and Electro-Technical qualifications of all grades. They will now report directly to the Programme Board.
Sub-group 1.2 has completed the review of the syllabus and delivered the modules to MCA approved Nautical Colleges. We currently expect that these will take approximately 18 months for Nautical Colleges to implement.
The group has begun reviewing assessment strategies, which we expect to complete in April 2024. The next step will be to update Training Record Book tasks, which is expected to be completed by July 2024.
If required, Consultation Group 1 and Sub-Group 1.3 may be restarted, depending on the support required by the MUK Careers and Skills matrix project.
Consultation Group 2 – Funding
Consultation Group 2 remains in place but is currently postponed.
Consultation Group 4 - Communications
This group continues to support the wider work of the individual consultation groups, including survey and campaign design.
The work of the National Awareness Campaign continues to progress, managed by the Merchant Navy Training Board and supported by Consultation Group 4. Funding has been secured to complete a discovery phase of the project, work commenced on 2 February 2024.
